There is a street in Kearneys Spring called Kuhn Street. It was named after a family that built homes in Toowoomba for decades — Wayne Althaus’s family on his mother’s side.

Stanley Kuhn was a builder. He worked in Toowoomba at a time when a tradesman’s reputation was built entirely in the community. No reviews. No websites. Just the work, and whether it held up.

On the other side of Wayne’s family, his father painted homes in this town for 45 years. He was not building a brand. He was not trying to grow a business. He showed up, did the work properly, and went home. That was the standard — not because anyone was watching, but because that was who he was.

Two sides of one family. Same town. Same ethic. Neither side knew the other was holding the same standard. It was simply who they were.

Wayne Althaus grew up watching both. And when he started Althaus Security Screens in 1993, he built it the same way.

Althaus Security Screens & Doors was established in Toowoomba in 1993 by Wayne Althaus. From the beginning, the business was built on one principle: install only the best product available, and install it to the highest standard.

In 1996, Crimsafe — then a new and revolutionary security screen technology — was looking for its first authorised manufacturer and installer in Toowoomba. Wayne was handpicked as that licensee. He has held that authorisation for 30 consecutive years.

In those 30 years, the security screen industry has changed dramatically. Competitors have come and gone. Products have been copied, diluted, and commoditised. Through all of it, Althaus Security has remained committed to one thing: manufacturing and installing genuine Crimsafe security screens and doors to the highest standard.

Now Wayne’s son Brodie is starting Althaus Auto Detailing — detailing cars in the same town. The trade is different. The standard is not.

Nobody wrote the standard down. Nobody needed to.
